Wie viel schwieriger ist es in den letzten Jahren geworden? Auf der einen Seite gibt es wahnsinnig viele gerade deutsche talentierte Spieler, die ans College gehen. Auf der anderen Seite ist Mike Latai jetzt gerade wieder hier. Sitz neben Ihnen in Adam Atam, würde ich vermuten, hatte da auch Optionen und hatte sicher auch in Europa große Angebote. Wie viel hat sich da verändert oder wie viel schwieriger ist es geworden, diesen Ulmer Weg weiterzugehen?

Die ganze Basketballmannschaft hat sich verändert. Es ist komplett anders. Ich habe gestern vorgestern mit einem Kollegen aus Frankreich telefoniert. Die haben, glaube ich, eine Zahl genannt. Ich bin mir nicht mehr ganz sicher, um die 200 Spieler, die momentan im College sind, die aus ihrem Programm praktisch weg sind. In Deutschland ist es ähnlich. Also kein guter unter 20, fast niemand ist mir in der Liga, die gehen alle rüber, weil da wirklich viel Geld zu verdienen ist. Das ist ein großes Problem, das ist ein Problem, was die FIBA leider nicht angeht. Da braucht es Regularien. Die kommen nicht. Wir selber leben natürlich ein bisschen von unserem Ruf. Also ein Adam hat einfach gesehen, wie sich die anderen entwickelt haben und da gibt es halt Spieler, die überlegen sich genau, College, okay, das kann gut laufen, wie es bei Mikey lief und gehört viel Spielzeit und eine große Rolle, der sich aber auch dann verändert hat, praktisch mit seiner Rolle, zu kurzem Team. Und dann gibt es aber noch andere Beispiele, die halt da sich den Arsch unsitzen und sich eben nicht wieder so weiterentwickeln. Und da muss jeder Spieler für sich eine Entscheidung treffen. Ja, wir versuchen natürlich die Spieler auf unsere Seite zu ziehen. Das gelingt nicht immer, aber dieses Jahr sind wir super, super glücklich mit denen, die gekommen sind. Und ich glaube, da hilft uns die Pro A auch ein bisschen, weil da natürlich nochmal eine Spielplattform ist, die für die Scouts sehr interessant sind. Du spielst gegen Profis, du spielst ja eine ProA. Auch das wird kein super Schlecken. Aber das hilft uns, diese Spieler zu bekommen.

Ich darf vielleicht noch kurz anschließen darf, diese ProA-Mannschaft, wenn es so in der öffentlichen Kommunikation vernommen wurde, war das da durchaus ein ordentlicher Kraftakt, das auf die Beine zu stellen, vielleicht auch einige Hindernisse zu überwinden, diese ProA mit all ihren Regularien auch in Ulm hier im Orange Campus hinzubekommen. Wie stolz sind Sie da vielleicht auch drauf, neben all dem, was die BBL und die Jugendarbeit geschafft hat, auch noch eine zweite Profi-Organisation eigentlich auf die Beine zu stellen?

Wir sind noch nicht durch, wir werden sie gleich sehen, wenn sie in die Halle kommt, dann nachher ein bisschen scheppern, weil gerade eine Treppe aufgebaut wird. Wir sind in Deutschland, die Leagens in Deutsch. Das heißt, da sind Regularien Zertifizierungen oder der ganze Plunder in Massen und natürlich auch, was Baubehörden, Ordnungen, Brandschutz und und und angehen. Auch da hatten wir einen spannenden Sommer mit viel Spaß. Ich hoffe, wir schließen es rechtzeitig ab. Aber das sieht schon gut aus und natürlich macht das Stolz, würde ich jetzt nicht sagen. Aber wir wollen von unseren Jungs einfach die bestmögliche Ausbildung. Und jetzt haben wir Jungs, die können Pro A spielen und dann sollen sie pro A spielen, die haben sich das verliebt aufzusteigen, dann lassen wir sie aufsteigen. Wenn sie oder absteigen, steigen sie ab. Das ist halt so. Aber natürlich ist es schon sehr cool, dass es gelungen ist. Und jetzt müssen wir halt gucken, dass wir in der Liga bleiben und das wird super spannend. Unsere BWL-Mannschaft ist super jung. Die Pro A-Mannschaft ist wahrscheinlich die jüngste, die jemals in der Pro A aufgelaufen ist.

Kurt Harrison, if you look at the big change you had during the during the summer, is that kind of an advantage as well? Because you also can start from a clean sheet of paper, implement new ideas without some leftovers from last year, or is it only okay, I would have liked to start on a different level?

SPEAKER_01 4:42

Oh, I mean that's a great question, and the first time I've been asked. I guess perhaps there's positive and negatives of both. Yes, we get a cle clean slate to build this thing, and and uh at the same time, you know, when you when you have returning players, uh that they know what to expect and they know how to help implement the new players into the system. Now we do have a couple guys back with Teo and Mesa, um and now Namori, who's also uh done a good job this preseason, but you know, they they didn't spend a lot of time, uh their big focus was with the Pro B, but but they spent a little bit of time with us, so they've done a good job of helping in the transition for all the new players, but they're also the youngest guys on the team. So um uh Coach Tyrone and I we have a lot of work to do to get the guys to play the way we want them to play on both sides of the basketball. But what I do like is the is the athleticism that we've added. I think it'll be a little bit of a different look than what you've what you've seen the last the last two seasons with me, anyway. Um and and now we have to improve the quality of the of the play. Okay, thanks a lot. Alright, thank you.

Wie funktioniert die Teamdynamik? Wie etabliert sich da eine Hierarchie in eine Rollenverteilung innerhalb der Mannschaft?

SPEAKER_05 6:23

Ich glaube am Anfang, wie gesagt, es ist noch ein bisschen schwer, da weggenaue Rollenverteilung zu haben. Aber ich glaube, wir haben eine sehr aufregende Gruppe. Ich meine, wir haben natürlich auch sehr viele junge Spieler wie Adam zum Beispiel, die natürlich auch sehr viel Talent und schon mal einen Kern mitbringen, wo man zum Beispiel auch EBI der auch natürlich noch einmal mehr schon gespielt hat. Ich glaube, wir haben gute Kombi aus vielen jungen Spielern, die auf jeden Fall sehr viel Talent haben und viel Energie mitbringen und einfach auch ein paar spannenden Spielern wie auch Jane zum Beispiel, die auf jeden Fall wissen, wie man halt auch auf Teammiveau längere Zeit spielen kann. Ich glaube, das müssen wir da auf jeden Fall rausführen, wie wir es so gut zusammenbekommen, wie wir dann unser Teamchemie zusammen abstellen. Und ich glaube, das können alles schon gut ablaufen.

Wie gesagt, eine sehr, sehr erfolgreiche Saison in Berlin mit der Meisterschaft, eine sehr, sehr guten eigenen Rolle. Was hat da denn den Ausschlag gegeben, trotzdem nach Ulm zurückzukommen?

SPEAKER_05 7:10

Ich glaube, es spricht relativ für sich nach Ulm zu kommen, was die auf jeden Fall mit den Spielern, was die Spieler hinterstritten machen, die Spielerfolge haben. Und einfach auch der Trainer als Management. Ich war natürlich auch früher schon hier. Deswegen war ich schon früher großer Fan von Hartz Pramon und dem ganzen Programm, was sie hier machen. Und deswegen haben wir eine Challenge leider, dass ich hier wieder zurückkomme. Danke.

You obviously had a great last year in Barnberg Growth individually and as a team. What still made the decision to come to the colour?

SPEAKER_06 7:53

I was just really attracted to the to the organization here. I knew there were a lot of good players that would be here. I know the coaches are great, facilities are amazing. I thought it was an opportunity to come and like help some young guys get better and also help myself get better and compete for a championship. So I was very excited to have the opportunity to come here and be a part of this group. Yeah.

I think the official announcement happened later, but I guess you knew a bit earlier. So how weird was it to be in the playoffs facing off with your next team basically?

SPEAKER_06 8:23

It was really weird. You know, I think um, you know, going into the going into the game the first time we I played here, it was interesting because I know some of the fans knew, um, and it was almost like a feeling of like, man, like this is the next team I'm gonna be with. I don't wanna I don't wanna do too much, but uh at the same time, you know, when the game starts, you just lock in and try to win. So um, you know, it was an interesting feeling, something that I had never been a part of, but um, you know, I'm happy we were able to get some wins.

I mean you're still realistically a young player, but in this team you're already one of the most experienced, um also from a BBL uh experience perspective. How do you see your role in the team?

SPEAKER_06 8:56

Uh just being a guy who um brings the energy, brings the effort every single game, every day in practice. Uh being a guy who can lead some of the young guys and give them some information that I've learned through my years in the BBL and just playing in general. And um, you know, just being a guy who the team can depend on to be there and be consistent every day.

Yeah. Um Coach Gavel, who coached you last year, obviously also was in Ulm, had a lot of success there. I mean, kind of weird thing talking maybe to your current coach about your next situation. Was there any conversation or is that then off limits basically?

SPEAKER_06 9:27

Um yeah, I tried to keep it, you know, as uh to myself as I could during the season because I didn't want any distractions. But when we had a little break, no games, um, we had a conversation about Ulm and he told me, you know, it's an amazing place to be. Um the resources are are you know some of the best in Europe, so um he felt like it was if this was a good opportunity in my mind, he felt like it would be a good spot for me. Yeah. Thanks though. Adam, you had uh already quite an impressive career in France. Um what made you come to Ulm? There's a number of connections with the young arts in the past, also French players. Was that part of it? Did you talk to some of those guys or what did you um why did you come to Ulm?

SPEAKER_07 10:16

Oh yeah, actually Noah Senge is one of my best friends, so he told me only positive things about UM. I had the chance to come to UM for the INT last year, so I could see the campus, um couple couple, a couple players, couple couple personal. Um so not to I talk to the coach, but I think that that was the the right project for me to grow up as a person, grow up as a player, and uh just purchase my dream.

On the one hand, you're quite a young player, obviously, at the other hand you've already played on a very good level in your history. How do you see your role in that team? What do you see already shaping up in the preseason?

SPEAKER_07 10:58

Uh I think my role in this team would be I mean I'm still young, but I I got a lot of experience. I can bring experience to other other teammates. Um I think I can bring a lot of a lot of my my game in the offensively, even off the court, defensively, I can bring energy. Um so far everybody trusts me, on the staff, uh all my teammates. So I feel really good this uh precision so far.

Okay. A lot of players your age went into the US, went into the college system. Uh how much was that part of your decision process?

SPEAKER_07 11:33

Uh I mean that was a big decision because obviously there's a lot of money and it's really cool the the university and college, uh the campers, the coaches, the teammates, everything. But that was a hard decision, but I wanted to stay in Europe to you know keep playing with grown men, keep playing with the pros, and um trying to develop as much as possible to go to the NBA next year. Devin, what made you choose on uh after a very successful pro A career?

SPEAKER_02 12:16

Um yeah, just uh really the history here, uh the club as a whole, uh after talking with uh Coach Ty in the summer, uh it felt like a no-brainer for me to come join them and uh win a lot of games hopefully here. Uh but yeah, I'm just uh fortunate and blessed to be here uh with these guys.

I mean you're um not exactly 18 anymore, if I may say so, so I think a lot of the appeal of Ulm is um developing players, um bringing players on the next level. How much is that also part of you, stepping up a league, and then obviously still young enough to make steps in your career?

SPEAKER_02 12:52

Um yeah, uh definitely I'm the oldest on this team. Uh it's crazy to think. Uh but uh yeah, I mean I'm I'm happy to be here, happy to uh take the next step in my career and hopefully just be able to show my talent and showcase my skills at a high level with and for these guys and uh for the city of Ulm. I'm just happy to be here.

You mentioned you being the oldest. Um on the other hand, there's some players who played on a higher level before. What does it mean from a team chemistry or hierarchy perspective? How do you see your role on the team?

SPEAKER_02 13:27

Um, yeah, so far so good. I mean, uh I feel like I'm a high-level player. Uh and this is it's a challenge for me as well, just uh you know, uh coming up to the first division uh with uh such great players here. Uh but I'm hoping to fit in well uh and showcase my talent to score, create for others, and just be a great teammate. So but I'm happy to be here. Thanks a lot for the line.
